What stones does Arat Marble work with?

Does Arat Marble make custom or wholesale orders?

Yes. Arat Marble works from a customer's sketch, photo or measurement, and also produces small runs of the same object for hotels, restaurants, interior designers, architects, shops and galleries. The process is: the drawing, the stone, the cut, then the crate.

Does Arat Marble ship internationally?

Yes. Pieces are packed in a wooden crate and shipped worldwide, with the customs paperwork prepared before the shipment leaves Türkiye.

Is every Arat Marble piece unique?

Yes. The outer edge is broken along the stone's own grain with a chisel and is never sanded afterwards, so no two rims match. Pieces are made to order.

Arat Marble is two people in Afyonkarahisar. Nesrin draws, Yakup cuts. For nearly eleven years they have made objects from travertine and marble: bowls, boxes, vases, a few figures, one horse.

Every piece is finished twice. The outside is split with a chisel and left as the stone broke. The inside is polished until the vein comes up.

Five cuts.

Not a catalogue. The five hand gestures the workshop repeats, and the pieces they leave behind.

Split

The chisel breaks the edge along the stone's own grain. No two rims match, and none is sanded afterwards.

Ribbed

Grooves cut ring by ring around the cylinder, then softened so the travertine's pores stay open.

Scalloped

Calacatta Viola, fluted and hollowed by hand. The plum vein decides where the flutes fall.

Yakup, who cuts

Marble is strong and heavy. It asks for patience, and it asks for effort, every single day.

I shape and finish each piece by hand. Eleven years now, same workshop, same chisel. I split the edge first, while the block still remembers being a rock. Then I polish the face until the vein comes up.

I make our designs and turn other people's ideas into pieces. As a woman in stone work, building something with my own hands and not giving up is my quiet pride.
